Monoethylene Glycol (MEG) is a colorless, virtually odorless and slightly viscous liquid. It is miscible with water, alcohols, aldehydes and many organic compounds. MEG will not dissolve rubber, cellulose acetate or heavy vegetable and petroleum oils. MEG has a low volatility and it is 50% more hygroscopic than glycerol at room temperature.Mono Ethylene Glycol (MEG) is the most widely used chemical from the Glycol family. It is an essential raw material for Polyester fibres and Polyethylene Terephthalate (PET) polymer. MEG based products are also used as coolants in Automobile antifreeze, resins, humectants for paper etc. MEG can be transported in Epoxy coated MS tankers. It can be stored in MS containers lined with baked phenolic resin / air drying epoxy phenolic resin or vinyl resin. It is advisable to store MEG in a cool, dry place with good ventilation - away from heat, sparks or flames.

Application:
  • Polyester: Mono Ethylene Glycol is an essential raw material for Polyester. Ethylene Glycol reacts with PTA / to produce polyester.
  • Adhesives, Sealants and Coatings: Mono Ethylene Glycol and D-Ethylene Glycol is used in latex based paint formulation. These glycols are also used to produce acrylate and methacrylate resins for coatings, adhesives, and paints.
  • Alkyd Resins for Paints and Coatings: Mono Ethylene Glycol is used as a reactant in the manufacture of Alkyd resins which are used in Paints, enamels and varnishes.
  • Antifreeze: Ethylene Glycol (MEG) is used as an active ingredient in engine coolants and antifreeze, offering benefits including a high boiling point, low vapor pressure, excellent heat transfer abilities, and the ability to depress the freezing point of water.

Pre-Inhibited Propylene Glycol(s) is an inhibited propylene glycol based industrial coolant and heat transfer agent. It is a slightly hazy liquid, free of suspended solids with a slight odor. The inhibitor system is designed to protect brass, copper, solder, steel, cast iron, aluminum, and other metals commonly found in industrial cooling and heating systems. A foam inhibitor is included to minimize foaming tendencies during service. The effectiveness of RADOTHERM 510 Inhibited Glycol(s) in preventing corrosion has been proven in extensive laboratory simulated service and in actual service tests. Using RADOTHERM 510 Inhibited Propylene Glycol(s) for heat transfer applications in place of brine solutions or uninhibited glycol-water solutions lowers maintenance costs and improves heat transfer.

Application:
  • Since RADOTHERM 510 Inhibited Glycol(s) is formulated with propylene glycol, it is especially suitable for applications in which toxicological and environmental considerations are critical.
  • RADOTHERM 510 Inhibited Propylene Glycol(s) is compatible and completely interchangeable with systems currently utilizing ethylene glycol based coolants.
  • RADOTHERM 510 Inhibited Propylene Glycol(s) protects cooling systems from freezing in winter, overheating in summer, and corrosion in all seasons. Improved heat transfer and less internal corrosion contributes significantly to overall operating and maintenance costs. RADOTHERM 510 Inhibited Glycol(s) is recommended as a heat transfer fluid for line heaters, ground thawing, athletic fields, grave digging, snow melting systems for loading ramps, walkways, highways, and airfield runways. The corrosion protection provided by RADOTHERM 510 Inhibited Propylene Glycol(s) and its low toxicity level as compared to other heat transfer fluids makes it an ideal transfer medium for heating, ventilation, and air conditioning (HVAC) systems as well as solar energy collection systems.

Propylene Glycol (PG) is clear, colorless, slightly syrupy liquid at room temperature. It may exist in air in the vapor form, although propylene glycol must be heated or briskly shaken to produce a vapor. Propylene glycol is practically odorless and tasteless.Propylene glycol is a synthetic liquid substance that absorbs water. Propylene glycol is also used to make polyester compounds, and as a base for deicing solutions. Propylene glycol is used by the chemical, food, and pharmaceutical industries as an antifreeze when leakage might lead to contact with food.It is used to absorb extra water and maintain moisture in certain medicines, cosmetics, or food products. It is a solvent for food colors and flavors, and in the paint and plastics industries. Propylene glycol is also used to create artificial smoke or fog used in fire-fighting training and in theatrical productions.

Ethylene Glycol is a colorless, practically odorless, low-volatility, low-viscosity, hygroscopic liquid. It is completely miscible with water and many organic liquids. The hydroxyl groups on glycols undergo the usual alcohol chemistry, giving a wide variety of possible derivatives. Hydroxyls can be converted to aldehydes, alkyl halides, amines, azides, carboxylic acids, ethers, mercaptans, nitrate esters, nitriles, nitrite esters, organic esters, peroxides, phosphate esters and sulfate esters. This chemistry permits ethylene glycol to act as an intermediate in a wide range of reactions. Especially significant is resin formation, including the condensation with dimethyl terephthalate or terephthalic acid resulting in a polyester resin. The reactivity and solubility of ethylene glycol provide the basis for many applications.

Uses: The widespread use of ethylene glycol as an antifreeze is based on its ability to lower the freezing point when mixed with water. The physical properties of ethylene glycol-water mixtures are therefore extremely important. The end uses for ethylene glycol are numerous.

Hazards:

  • Untreated ethylene glycol poisoning can be fatal.
  • Exposure to vapors of ethylene glycol may cause irritation.
  • Exposure to liquid ethylene glycol may result in swelling of the eyelid and around and of the cornea.
  • Other effects are inflammation of the conjunctiva and iris, and conjunctival or corneal injury.

Diethylene Glycol (DEG) is a valuable chemical intermediate used in the production of unsaturated polyester resins (UPR), plasticizers, acrylate and methacrylate resins and urethanes. Diethylene Glycol is a colorless, low-volatility, low viscosity, hygroscopic liquid. Under normal conditions, diethylene glycol has no detectable odor; however, under high vapor concentrations, a slightly sweet odor may be detected. It is completely miscible with water and many organic liquids. Because of its higher molecular weight, diethylene glycol is considerably less volatile than ethylene glycol and differs sufficiently in that it has specialized uses. The reactivity and solubility of diethylene glycol provide the basis for many applications.
