ACUPOL DRSL1 is a zwitterionic charged drilling polymer for pilling excavations, i.e.,

removal of colloidal and particulate suspension of impurities. Zwitterionic polymers have

both anionic and cationic groups on the same monomer unit thus capable of removing both

inorganic and organic matter i.e., biofouling. Biofouling is primarily due to protein

aggregation. Due to the presence of a mixed charged state in zwitterionic polymers, they

exhibit properties similar to those of proteins. Zwitterionic polymers have unique anbiofouling

and cryoprotective properties which are strongly related to the interaction between

polymer and water. They maintain the water structure at the interface between polymer and

material, due to their charge balance.
