Sodium monofluorophosphate, commonly abbreviated MFP, is the inorganic compoundwith the formula Na2PO3F. Typical for a salt, MFP is odourless, colourless, and water-soluble. This salt is an ingredient in some toothpastes.
MFP is best known as an ingredient in toothpastes.MFP is also used in some medications for the treatment of osteoporosis.

Diethylhydroxylamine (DEHA) has been utilized as an oxygen scavenger in boiler  systems in many industries for the past 20 years. Its unique combination of properties, such as volatility; the ability to passivate steel surfaces; and its very low toxicity makes it the oxygen scavenger of choice for many applications. The application of DEHA in a number of different systems is discussed in this article and its performance is compared with hydrazine and sulfite. 
Deha Performance Characteristics DEHA has a number of beneficial properties as an oxygen scavenger in boiler feedwater systems: 1. Rapid complete oxygen removal under typical boiler feedwater temperature and pH conditions. 2. Promotes passivation of internal surfaces in the boiler system. 3. It is volatile similar to a neutralizing amine with the ability to distilled off the boiler, and is available to protect the entire steam condensate system as well as the feedwater and boiler system. 4. Under the action of heat, some of the DEHA is degraded to yield two neutralizing amines which assist in elevating the pH in the condensate. 5. It has very low toxicity making it safe and easy to handle in typical boiler application systems.

Sodium dodecyl sulfate (SDS or NaDS), sodium laurilsulfate or sodium lauryl sulfate (SLS) is an organic compound with the formula CH3(CH2)11OSO3Na. It is an anionic surfactant used in many cleaning and hygiene products. The salt is of an organosulfate consisting of a 12-carbon tail attached to a sulfate group, giving the material the amphiphilic properties required of a detergent. Being derived from inexpensive coconut and palm oils, it is a common component of many domestic cleaning products.

Sodium coco-sulfate is essentially the same compound, but made from less purified coconut oil.
SDS is mainly used in detergents for laundry with many cleaning applications.SDS is a highly effective surfactant and is used in any task requiring the removal of oily stains and residues. For example, it is found in higher concentrations with industrial products including engine degreasers, floor cleaners, and car wash soaps. It is found in toothpastes, shampoos, shaving creams, and bubble bathformulations in part for its thickening effect and its ability to create a lather.Pepsodent toothpaste at one time used the name "Irium" for its sodium lauryl sulfate ingredient.

Catalyzed sodium sulfite based oxygen scavenger designed to protect low to medium pressure boiler systems against corrosion. Oxygen present in feed water can cause severe damage to boiler equipment if left unchecked. An oxygen induced attack can lead to pitting corrosion on the metal surface, which can result in rapid failure of the boiler.

APPLICATION Maximum and minimum limits are specified for control of boiler water sodium sulfite concentrations. Do not hesitate to increase or decrease the feed of this chemical, as necessary, in order to keep boiler water sulfite concentrations between the specified limits. Minimum residual levels of sodium sulfite should be between 30-60 ppm, when the boiler is operating below 150 psi.

Thiourea is an organosulfur compound with the formula SC(NH2)2 . It is structurally similar to urea, except that the oxygen atom is replaced by a sulfur atom, but the properties of urea and thiourea differ significantly. Thiourea is a reagent in organic synthesis. 
The main application of thiourea is in textile processing.Thiourea reduces peroxides to the corresponding diols. The intermediate of the reaction is an unstable epidioxide which can only be identified at −100 °C. Thiourea is commonly employed as a source of sulfide, e.g. for converting alkyl halides to thiols. Such reactions proceed via the intermediacy of isothiuronium salts. Thioureas are used a building blocks to pyrimidine derivatives. The pharmaceuticals thiobarbituric acid and sulfathiazole is prepared using thiourea. Other industrial uses of thiourea include production of flame retardant resins, and vulcanization accelerators. Thiourea is used as an auxiliary agent in diazo paper, light-sensitive photocopy paper and almost all other types of copy paper. It is also used to tone silver-gelatin photographic prints.

Sodium Gluconate

Sodium Gluconate

Sodium gluconate is the sodium salt of gluconic acid, produced by fermentation of glucose. It is a white to tan, granular to fine, crystalline powder, very soluble in water. Non corrosive, non toxic and readily biodegradable (98% after 2 days), sodium gluconate is more and more appreciated as chelating agent.

The outstanding property of sodium gluconate is its excellent chelating power, especially in alkaline and concentrated alkaline solutions. It forms stable chelates with calcium, iron, copper, aluminium and other heavy metals, and in this respect, it surpasses all other chelating agents, such as EDTA, NTA and related compounds.

Aqueous solutions of sodium gluconate are resistant to oxidation and reduction, even at high temperatures. However, it is easily degraded biologically (98% after 2 days), and thus presents no wastewater problem.

Sodium gluconate is also a highly efficient set retarder and a good plasticiser / water reducer for concrete, mortar and gypsum.

And last but not least, it has the property to inhibit bitterness in foodstuffs.

Hydrazine (also called diazane) is an inorganic compound with the formula N2H4. It is a colourless flammable liquid with an ammonia-like odor. Hydrazine is highly toxic and dangerously unstable unless handled in solution. Hydrazine is mainly used as a foaming agent in preparingpolymer foams, but significant applications also include its uses as a precursor topolymerization catalysts and pharmaceuticals. Additionally, hydrazine is used in variousrocket fuels and to prepare the gas precursors used in air bags. Hydrazine is used within both nuclear and conventional electrical power plant steam cycles as an oxygen scavenger to control concentrations of dissolved oxygen in an effort to reduce corrosion.The majority use of hydrazine is as a precursor to blowing agents.Hydrazine is also used as a propellant on board space vehicles, and to both reduce the concentration of dissolved oxygen in and control pH of water used in large industrial boilers.

Peracetic acid (also known as peroxyacetic acid, or PAA), is an organic compound with the formula CH3CO3H. This organic peroxide is a colorless liquid with a characteristic acrid odor reminiscent of acetic acid. It can be highly corrosive.The main use of peracetic acid is for the industrial synthesis of epoxides. It transfers an oxygen atom to double bonds, e.g. in ethene and propene, to formepoxides and alcohols. It can also be used in producing synthetic glycero from propene, and is used in nylon manufacturing.Peracetic acid is used mainly in the food industry, where it is applied as a cleanser and as adisinfectant. Since the early 1950’s, acetic acid was applied for bacteria and fungi removal from fruits and vegetables. It was also used for the disinfection of recicled rinsing water for foodstuffs.Nowadays peracetic acid is applied for the disinfection of medical supplies and to prevent bio film formation in pulp industries. It can be applied during water purification as a disinfectant and for plumming disinfection. Peracetic acid is suitable for cooling tower water disinfection; it effectively prevents bio film formation and Controls Legionella bacteria.

Cyclohexylamine

Cyclohexylamine is an organic compound, belonging to the aliphatic amine class. It is a colorless liquid, although like many amines, samples are often colored due to contaminants. It has a fishy odor and is miscible with water. Like other amines, it is aweak base, compared to strong bases such as NaOH, but it is a stronger base than itsaromatic analog, aniline.

It is a useful intermediate in the production of many other organic compounds. It is a metabolite of cyclamate.
Cyclohexylamine is used as an intermediate in synthesis of other organic compounds. It is the precursor to sulfenamide-based reagents used as accelerators for vulcanization. It is a building block for pharmaceuticals (e.g., mucolytics, analgesics, and bronchodilators). The amine itself is an effective corrosion inhibitor. Some sweeteners are derived from this amine, notably cyclamate. The herbicide hexazinone is derived from cyclohexylamine

Potassium sorbate can be found in a variety of sources, mainly as a preservative in preprocessed foods because it helps to prevent mold, fungi and yeast growth that can cause foods to spoil. This chemical can easily be produced and is quite inexpensive, making it an ideal choice for many industrial applications as well.
Potassium sorbate is a chemical that is formed when potassium salt bonds with sorbic acid, creating a fatty acid salt that is polysaturated. At room temperature, it looks like a white crystalline powder, but the mixture will quickly dissolve in water, which will revert it back to sorbic acid as the potassium dissolves. Some forms of potassium sorbate appear as a yellowish powder which can be dissolved in propylene glycol, ethanol or water to create a preservative with a variety of pH levels.
Uses of Potassium Sorbate
  • Potassium sorbate is found in many food products, especially those which are meant to be stored and eaten at room temperature. This helps to ward off particles such as mold or fungus that can cause foods to spoil or make people sick. Baked goods, processed fruits and vegetables or dairy products frequently contain this product.
  • Winemakers will also use potassium sorbate as part of the fermentation process so that the wine can develop without yeast that would alter the flavor by devouring the sugar content of the berries. Many waxed wrappings or coatings on foods will also contain potassium sorbate as a way to increase preservative levels without altering the recipe of the food.
  • Personal hygiene or beauty products will also use potassium sorbate in their solutions. Shampoo, lotion, cream-based concealers and other liquid products will often contain preservatives to prevent the products spoiling or breaking down as they sit on the shelf or in room temperature storage for long periods of time.
  • Sealants, glosses and industrial coatings will often use potassium sorbate as well. This will help prevent the seal from breaking down over time and will help preserve the materials underneath. If the gloss is used on an organic material such as wood, it will prevent mold, fungus or yeast from attaching to the surface and causing damage.

Perchloroethylene

Perchloroethylene (also called PERC) is a man-made chemical which colorless, nonflammable liquid. The largest user of PERC is the dry cleaning industry. It accounts for 80% to 85% of all dry cleaning fluid used. Textile mills, chlorofluorocarbon producers, vapor degreasing and metal cleaning operations, and makers of rubber coatings also use PERC. It can be added to aerosol formulations, solvent soaps, printing inks, adhesives, sealants, polishes, lubricants, and silicones. Typewriter correction fluid and shoe polish are among the consumer products that can contain PERC. Perchloroethylene evaporates when exposed to air. It dissolves only slightly when mixed with water. It is also used for degreasing metal parts and in manufacturing other chemicals. Tetrachloroethene is found in consumer products, including some paint and spot removers, water repellents, brake and wood cleaners, glues, and suede protectors. Other names for tetrachloroethene include PERC, tetrachloroethylene, perchloroethylene, and PCE.

Perchloroethylene has become the most widely used dry cleaning solvent in the world, essentially because of its efficient solvency, ease of recycling, and the available technology that allows for safe handling.

Benefits of perchloroethylene solvent include:

  • A heavier specific gravity than water to provide increased mechanical agitation during the wash cycle

  • Low viscosity and low surface tension to enhance penetration of fibers

  • Quick evaporation, leaving no residue or odors

  • Superior recyclability

  • Safe for fabrics and dyes commonly found in the fashion industry

These solvents are nonflammable and have neither flash point nor a fire point. And since zoning ordinances are often less restrictive when using nonflammable solvent. it is used as a water treatment and an industrial chemicals.


Glycerol Monostearate

Glycerol Monostearate

Glycerol monostearate, commonly known as GMS, is an organic molecule used as anemulsifier. GMS is a colorless, odorless, and sweet-tasting flaky powder that ishygroscopic. It is a glycerol ester of stearic acid. It occurs naturally in the body as a by-product of the breakdown of fats, and is also found in fatty foods.

GMS is a food additive used as a thickening, emulsifying, anti-caking, and preservative agent; an emulsifying agent for oils, waxes, and solvents; a protective coating for hygroscopic powders; a solidifier and control release agent in pharmaceuticals; and a resin lubricant. It is also used in cosmetics and hair care products.

GMS is largely used in baking preparations to add "body" to the food. It is responsible for giving ice cream and whipped cream its smooth texture. It is sometimes used as an anti-staling agent in bread.

Acurosil IB is a broad spectrum, fast acting bactericide for the formulation of disinfectants and sanitizers, for use in industrial, institutional, agricultural, food, beverage and domestic applications. ACUROSIL IB is a 20% aqueous solution of poly (hexamethylene biguanide) hydrodhloride, also known as PHMB.

Applications:

Acurosil IB is effective in a wide range of industrial disinfection applications, promarily as a solid surface disinfectant. Applications areas include:

Amount to Use:

Acurosil IB can be used alone or in combination with other biocides to create products for a wide range of disinfection applications.
Considerable data exists which provides a measure of the intrinsic anti-microbial activity of ACUROSIL IB, generated via European suspension test protocols relevant to application in Food, Industrial, Domestic and Institutional Hygiene.


Its activity had been further demonstrated under conditions representative of practical use, and a range of use concentrations is provided in Table 3. However, it is recommended that fiels tests under practical conditions be undertaken to determine the most cost-effective dose for your application.


Triethylene Glycol - Teg

TEG (Triethylene Glycol) is produced as a byproduct in the manufacture of MEG. TEG is a colourless liquid with a high boiling point. It is most hygroscopic in nature, amongst Mono & Diethylene Glycols. TEG is miscible with water, alcohol, ether, acetone but is insoluble in benzene and its homologues. TEG is a stable non corrosive chemical with a high flash point.
TEG finds end use in Natural Gas Dehydration, Plasticizers, Conditioning agents etc.


At normal temperature and pressure , TEG can be easily transported in Mild steel tankers , internally coated with an epoxy paint.


Similarly, TEG can be stored in MS containers lined with baked phenolic resin / air drying epoxy phenolic resin or vinyl resin. It is advisable to store TEG in a cool , dry place with good ventilation - away from heat, sparks or flames. Care should be taken to prevent TEG from mixing with strong acids , bases and oxidising materials.


Applications :


  • Natural Gas Dehydration: Hygroscopic nature of TEG is put to use in dehydration of natural gas. TEG is contacted counter currently with natural gas in a packed or bubble tray to remove moisture from natural gas. TEG is subsequently regenerated for reuse by stripping it of its water content.
  • Plasticizer:TEG can be effectively used as a plastisizer for Vinyls, nitro cellulose, safety glasses. Diesters of TEG gives good low temperature properties and smooth film finishes.
  • Conditioning Agent
  • The affinity of TEG for water is used advantageously in the manufacture of adhesives or pastes to eliminate shrinkage, curling and brittleness.

In addition to use as an ingredient in cleansers with other cleansing ingredients, ammonium hydroxide in water is also sold as a cleaning agent by itself, usually labeled as simply "ammonia".In industry, ammonium hydroxide is used as a precursor to some alkyl amines, although anhydrous ammonia is usually preferred.In furniture-making, ammonium hydroxide was traditionally used to darken or stain wood containing tannic acid. Applications:

Disflamoll® TP is used as a plasticizer in the production of cellulose acetate films. Other fields of application where Disflamoll® TP may be used as :

Sodium Dodecyl Benzene Sulphonate is a high content anionic surfactant with properties of detergency, moistening, foaming, emulsility and dispersity.

SULFAMIC ACID is a dry, non-volatile, non-hygroscopic, odorless, white crystalline, stable acid .It is moderately soluble in water and forms strongly acidic aqueous solution that is comparable in acidity to the common strong mineral acids but it may be easily handled and stored in the dry form. At room temperature ,dilute aqueous sulfamic acid solution is stable for a long time but rapid hydrolysis occurs at elevated temperatures .Its solution is less corrosive toward metals than other mineral acid. Because of advantages such as handling ease, solubility and low corrosiveness, sulfamic acid is used for many diversified applications.

Sorbic acid is a natural, organic preservative frequently used to maintain the freshness of a variety of human foods, drugs, and cosmetic products. Potassium sorbate and sorbic acid possess antifungal, and to a lesser extent antibacterial, properties.

Sorbic acid reacts with other chemical compounds to make what are known as derivatives. Such derivatives include calcium sorbate, potassium sorbate, and sodium sorbate.

Sorbic acid is commonly used to preserve products such as wines, cheeses, baked goods, fresh fruits and vegetables, and refrigerated meat. Sorbic acid is also added to pharmaceuticals and cosmetic products.

Sorbic acid may be used in wines to prevent secondary fermentation of sugar and recontamination by yeast. The most common methods of application for dairy products includes dipping or spraying with potassium sorbate solutions for natural cheeses, and direct addition to processed cheeses. Sorbates are commonly used to extend the life of fish and shellfish. They inhibit the development of yeast and mold in the fish product. Sorbates are applied as a fungistat for prunes, pickles, relishes, maraschino cherries, olives, and figs and are used to extend the shelf life of prepared salads. Sorbates also preserve meat and poultry.

Carbohydrazide is used as an oxygen scavenger in water treatment for boilers. It is an alternative to the hazardous and potentially carcinogenic hydrazine. Carbohydrazide reacts with oxygen to make water, nitrogen and urea. It also passivates metals and reduces metal oxides converting ferric oxide to ferrous oxide and converting cupric oxide to cuprous oxide.

It is widely used in the production of drugs, herbicides, plant growth regulators, and dyestuffs.
Carbohydrazide is a white crystalline solid with a melting point of 153-154 °C. It decomposes upon melting. It is very water soluble and largely insoluble in organic solvents 
USES:

  • Oxygen scrubber: carbohydrazide is used as an oxygen scrubber in boiler systems. Oxygen scrubbers remove oxygen gas from the boiler system to prevent corrosion.
  • Polymers: carbohydrazide can react with many aromatic compounds to create polymers.Carbohydrazide can be used as a curing agent for epoxide-type resins.
  • Photography: carbohyrazide is used in the silver halide diffusion process as one of the toners. Carbohydrazide is used to stabilize color developers that produce images of the azo-methine and azine classes.
  • Carbohydrazide has been used to develop ammunition propellants stabilize soaps, and used a reagent in organic synthesis.

Glycolic acid (or hydroxyacetic acid) is the smallest α-hydroxy acid (AHA). This colorless, odorless, and hygroscopic crystalline solid is highly soluble in water. It is used in various skin-care products. Glycolic acid is found in some sugar-crops.
Glycolic acid is used in the textile industry as a dyeing and tanning agent, in food processing as a flavoring agent and as a preservative, and in the pharmaceutical industry as a skin care agent. It is also used in adhesives and plastics. Glycolic acid is often included into emulsion polymers, solvents and additives for ink and paint in order to improve flow properties and impart gloss.
